Laura & Matthew’s Uniquely NOLA Second Line Wedding

New Orleans wedding

Laura and Matthew have been together since they were in their teens — how sweet is that? For their wedding, they wanted to treat family and friends to an unforgettable undeniably-New-Orleans experience. They had their ceremony at a friend’s beautiful home in the Garden District before hopping aboard a street car and dancing along with the 610 Stompers in an iconic Second Line parade.

Elise Bennett with Blair Bennett’s Photography and associate Alicia captured the festivities beautifully and luckily we get to have a peek today. Enjoy!

From here on I will let the lovely Laura tell you all about the two of them and their wedding:

Matthew and I started dating when I was 15, he was 16. We went to Hershey Park on a trip with our youth group — I blacked out on one of the roller coasters and when I came to he was sitting in first aid with chocolate twizzlers (my fave). He’s been my hero and best friend ever since.

We didn’t have a theme per-se, but we wanted our friends and family to experience things that are uniquely New Orleans: the Garden District, the St. Charles Streetcar, a second line, a brass band, the rotating Carousel Bar, and of course amazing food and drinks. We packed it all into one evening!

My husband was nervous about dancing in the second line parade — he had never been in one before. So I surprised my husband and the guests with the 610 Stompers, an all-male dance crew that marches in Mardi Gras parades. They wear short shorts, grow big mustaches, and have the silliest dance moves — it’s impossible to be shy about dancing when they’re around.

Advice from the newlyweds:

Hire a day-of coordinator. We didn’t, and probably should have–it will save you and your wedding party a lot of unnecessary running around.
