Snapshots from our vacation in Japan

Posted by on Apr 8, 2013 in Certified Poptastic!, Updates | 0 comments

In case you didn’t get the memo, my husband Arnold and I went back to Japan this past couple of weeks because… well I guess there’s really no special reason to go on holiday but to have fun, right? Here are a few snaps I took along the way.

Japan trip 2013

We made sure to go when the sakura (cherry blossoms) were in full bloom because they are just. so. beautiful as you can see in the above pic. Some of the photos above were taken in Ueno and Aoyama in Tokyo and Dotonbori in Osaka. You might also recognize Yoshitomo Nara’s paintings in the collage — those are actual artworks hanging in the cafe the artist himself designed. The Atom (a.k.a. Astroboy) artwork in the collage is also an original painting found in manga artist Osamu Tezuka’s museum in Takarazuka, Hyogo. Yes, my husband and I indeed made the rounds!

In case you’re wondering about that cute Totoro cream puff, it was part of a birthday gift from a Tokyo-based friend (and it was truly yummy… such a shame I couldn’t take it home though!)

More snaps from Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Harajuku in Tokyo. Look at those cute kitties — the poor babies were on leashes because I don’t think they were allowed to roam around the shotengai. 🙁

Japan trip spring 2013

I’m *really* shy so I rarely post photos of myself on here but I figured what the heck, some of you have been reading this blog since 3 years ago when I started it sooooo…. well that’s me geeking out on the sakura in Hyogo, feeding the friendly deer in Nara, and posing with my husband in front of the Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture in Tokyo.

Japan spring 2013

Apologies for the personal nature of this post … though I hope you enjoyed the photos! We’ll be back to regular Poptastic Bride programming by tomorrow.

Cute bridesmaid dresses with sugar skulls, bicycles, and kitties? Yes, please!

Posted by on Mar 26, 2013 in Hip Wedding Fashion | 0 comments

Judging by the popularity of my retro bridesmaid dresses posts in the past, I’m glad to see that a lot of you want to dress up your bridal party in clothes they’ll want to wear again after your wedding.  Well guess what I just discovered a new (to me, at least) store that carries the most adorable retro-style dresses and of course I want to share it with you guys! The shop is called Dress 911 and they are based on Canada BUT do ship internationally. I am totally smitten with the dresses on their site. The prints are oh-so-cute (Cats? Bikes? Sugar skulls? Yup they have ’em!) and the silhouettes are timeless and figure-flattering. I’m always on the lookout for fun dresses to wear as a wedding guest myself and these certainly fit the bill.

Check out some of my interesting finds —  at wallet-friendly prices too!

I love how versatile these dresses are, they will surely become workhorses in any wardrobe! You can wear them as they are in a casual setting or in warmer climes, or wear them with tights and a cardigan at formal occasions. All these — and tons more — are available at

The latest invitation set from Poptastic Bride called “Chalkboard Poster” is inspired by the vintage chalkboards that I’m seeing all over weddings these days! Cute Striped Dresses & Shoes for Your Bridal Party

Posted by on Mar 13, 2013 in Hip Wedding Fashion | 0 comments

cute striped dresses and shoes

If you’ve been following style blogs, you already know by now that stripes are HOT this season. I’m seeing it all over Pinterest these days and I may or may not have spent the past weekend digging through my bedroom closet at my parents’ home for decade old striped clothing items that (fortunately) still fit me. Thank goodness they’re back in style and luckily moths haven’t got to them yet.

But I digress. While this blog is never really one to follow trends, I can’t deny that stripes are always fun, chic, and – depending on the size of the stripes — figure flattering. (Yes you read that right. Studies have actually shown that horizontal stripes are slimming, not widening.) I love the simple graphic pattern so much that I did some striped wedding inspiration posts three years ago (part 1: fashion / part 2: details) but because some of the links in the fashion portion might already be outdated by now, I’ve rounded up new merch from my favorite shops ModCloth and to get you started on your shopping!

What’s the Lineup? Dress from ModCloth

I Tank You’re Swell Dress from ModCloth

Chevron the Dance Floor Dress from ModCloth

Candy Button Beauty Dress from ModCloth

Morning At The Market Dress from ModCloth

Shojo and Tell Dress from ModCloth

Bright on the Brink Dress from ModCloth

Color Inside the Lines Dress from ModCloth

Most of the dresses I picked are sleeveless because, as bridal party wear, they can easily be unified with a solid-hued cardigan or stole in your color motif. (See my post on How to Mix and Match Dresses for a Mismatched Bridal Party Look)

As for footwear, here are some really cute shoes that you can either pair with the striped dresses or simply wear with solid colored outfits as a statement piece.

NOTE: I’ve labeled these as bridal party dresses and shoes but these selections would be great as wedding guest attire — especially for spring and summer weddings — too!

How about you? Will you outfit your bridesmaids in stripes? I’d love to hear what you think!
