Free printable “Just Married” garland in spring colors

Posted by on Mar 21, 2012 in DIY Projects | 3 comments

Confession: my birthday is only a couple days away! (Yup, mine, not the blog’s. :)) February was hectic for me both online and off so I wasn’t able to write a 2-year anniversary post. What I wanted to say though is that I really appreciate all the good vibes that you, dear friends, have been throwing my way.

When I started Poptastic Bride in early 2010, all I thought I wanted was a way to get word out on my invitation store but because I’ve been obsessed with weddings since the day I got engaged (way back in 2002!), the blog began to write itself. Two years later I am still in disbelief that its reader count is more than the expected 4: my husband, parents, and cat (it’s true, he browses it on the tablet). 🙂

It’s not nearly enough but right now all I can offer in thanks for your continued support, aside from the promise that I will keep on blogging about fun, creative & inspiring weddings, is this free printable — a “Just Married” garland in the colors I picked for the funky spring inspiration board I posted a while back.

The letters for “Just Married” are set against retro-ish patterns I quickly whipped up. Here’s a closer look:

The garland rectangles are 5.25″ x 7″ each in size and are arranged in twos per A4 sheet in the PDF file. Print them on card stock, punch holes at the upper corners, and thread a ribbon through them. Use it for your couple portraits, hang it at your reception site, or have it dangle from behind your chairs.

If you think you can have a use for it, you may get it here (230k zipped file). Don’t forget to send a photo of it in action!

Certified Poptastic 12: Silent Film Wedding Inspiration

Posted by on Mar 18, 2012 in Certified Poptastic! | 0 comments

I know a lot of you enjoyed the fabulous Dudley Do-Right silent film parody engagement session I posted last Friday (who wouldn’t, right?). The recent success of The Artist has been inspiring everyone to come up with old timey styled shoots too so I thought of gathering some vintage inspiration for you in case you’d like your own silent film-inspired wedding or e-session.

Mood and fashion inspiration: Fine Art America sells amazing prints of stills from silent films and you can browse through dozens of posters of couples and poses you can emulate for your shoots. My favorites are the following: a mini theater window shot and the vintage couple on a tandem bike.

Stationery: Silent-film inspired cards from Starshaped Press on etsy

A silent movie inspired wedding invitation: The Proposal, uploaded by sanjea.

Silent Film Title Printables: downloadable silent film inspired title boxes that you can use as table numbers or photo booth message boards.

Silent film score: Incompetech offers royalty-free silent film style music for personal use, just remember to credit the composer especially if you’re posting it online.

Silent film fonts: Vintage style type you can use for title cards and your stationery, hand-picked from Dafont (free for personal use): Bellerose, Chocolate Box, Fontleroy Brown, Noir-et-Blanc, Rechtman

More silent film inspiration: How does a Steamboat Willie-inspired engagement shoot sound to you? Personally I think it would rock! Mickey & Minnie’s outfits are pretty cute too.

Pretty Singapore-based Filipino bride Rachelle showed me stunning photos of her and husband Ron’s Trash the Dress session shot in various locations in Singapore.

From Rachelle:

Ron and I met in highschool. The year was 1997. Sparks didn’t fly at first but when it did, it never stopped. We became really good friends before taking it up a notch higher. And it has been a thrilling roller coaster ride since.

Denver-based photographer Meredith Moran tells me that she’s recently fallen in love with the idea of video Save the Dates — quick little videos capturing a couple’s relationship and love to announce their engagement.  Below is a link to the sweet video she made for engaged couple Joe and Mary Beth.
